Sundance Resort, obviously, isn't the main host of the Sundance Film Festival - that honor belongs to Park City. But the Provo Canyon resort does, in fact, host some select screenings throughout the courst of the festival. And those films aren't just the festival dregs either. Some of the festival's biggest attractions are getting played at Sundance Resort. There are a lot worth mentioning, but this box has limited space, so I'll focus on one -- "Frank," starring Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The film is a about an aspiring young musician who joins an avant-garde band. The band's frontman Frank (Fassbender) is particularly eccentric -- he always wears a giant fake head, among other quirks. Now, a funny premise does not a great movie make, but this one is too good to neglect. Why? Well, beyond the humor of it, its absurdity is actually strangely believable. Not all musicians are overtly "eccentric," but many are. Their art transforms them, for better or worse. They often become manifestations of that art. "Frank" dares to make that transformation a little more overt, and for that I tip my hat.

Putting Fassbender and Gyllenhaal at the helm doesn't hurt either. Both actors are among Hollywood's most consistent individually. Put them together, though? Sign me up.

"Frank" plays at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Sundance Resort Screening Room. Tickets are currently wait list only. For film inquires, visit Sundance.org/festival.
