Q: Can you discuss the development of the script, the transition from an Alien prequel into what you've called "an original mythology", was it fairly seamless?
Damon: Gentlemen named John Spades wrote the script that I thought was great and Ridley said was great, it was sent to me, Ridley said I really want to make an original movie, I feel like I already made "Alien" and very happy with the way it turned out, there's no reason for me to just go back and do that again, there are some great ideas in that script, there's a way we can take ideas from it and move forward with them, giving at the same time a tip to the people who have seen "Alien", we don't want to deny it – this is a part of that, but it has to be a movie on itself, I just said: "It's awesome..."
Ridley: Well, it actually took weeks. Six... But the first time I've said this to Fox it was about two years ago...
Damon: Yeah, I met you in June of 2010... And we've been working on it for a couple of months...
Ridley: So timing of making a movie of this scale is pretty damn fast... I found a draft that Damon describes, it needed work, it needed that final step to making it into what you're calling the real shooting script, and from that day to delivered movie – two years... It's fast...
Q: Is this is the scariest movie you ever made and what makes it so frightening?
Ridley: I'm not sure about this question, you will be able to tell me when you'll see the film, but I'm certainly set out to tell: not just a scary movie, but evolutionary story which raises many questions that, in facts, are in everyone's minds, almost day by day I would say... In that journey there are some scary moments and very scary challenges, so, I hope, you won't be disappointed...
Q: What convinced you that 3D is the way to go with "Prometheus"?
Damon: It's great question, because you actually shot this movie in 3D, it's not a conversion...
Ridley: Yeah, I shot it in 3D, it's not a conversion, it was not a problem, I has a great camera man... You know, I came very much from the camera visual side anyway through my entire career, so taking off to 3D, honestly, was simply not a problem... And it seemed to be: "Why not?" I think the only negative thing about 3D is about this [put the glasses on]...
Q: Did you use CGI to create the world of "Prometheus" or did you go "old school way" practical sets?
Ridley: The word "old school" I don't like, so did I go "sensible" school or "practical sets", because CGI is not cheap, it seriously more expensive and, actually, it takes actors out of the set, acting in green or blue vacuum... So we came out of this extremely economically on a seriously good looking film.
Q: In the original "Alien" when the chestburster come out of the chest, everyone was surprise, will you give us treats like this?
A: oh, yeah! In fact, I'm even embarrassed about it, but you'll tell me... I'm embarrassed because it's pretty shocking...
